Rashaan Roland Kirk

I just added a link in the music blog list to the "Does your house have Lions?"  blog dedicated to Rashaan Roland Kirk. The author is preparing a book on the late RRK so no doubt the blog's worth a visit.

Arthur Penn R.I.P.

Just read the news that Arthur Penn passed away. The NYT published their more than complete obituary here.
When reading of his passing i thought immediatley of "The Chase" and not necessarily of "Bonnie and Clyde". Just checked his filmography at IMDB and was reminded of "The Missouri Breaks", "The Lefthanded Gun" and of course "Little Big Man". I never saw "Mickey One" (which has never made it to DVD) although i have it on my HD, and neither did I see "Night Moves".
Hell why do i have to work tomorrow i just want to start a 24 hour Arthur Penn marathon...

ROIO of the week : Ron Carter - Gleisdorf, 28.05.2009

Although his music is not earth moving or as innovative as other musicians these days, it's always a real pleasure to listen at Ron Carters concerts. The delicatesse each member of his groups showcases throughout the concert is impressive. I really dig Stephen Scott who surprises me every time when i listen at their concerts.
Enjoy!

Cannonball Adderley Interview, 1969 - Part 1

This is the first part of a recorded interview that jazz writer Chris Albertson did with Cannonball Adderley in November, 1969. The interview was done for an article in Downbeat magazine that finally appeared in 1970.
This is the raw interview and it finishes rather abruptly.
Second part of the interview to follow soon.

Thelonious Monk page

I just added a Thelonious Monk page (all the different pages can be found right on top of the blog just under the title) dedicated to the pianomaster and uploaded a flyer of a concert he gave in the Koningin Elisabethzaal, Antwerp on February 29, 1964. The concert is not mentioned in Robin Kelley's excellent biography.
